Hymn: We Will Feast in the House of Zion

Editor's Note: Sandra McCracken will be with us at the 2018 Doxology & Theology Conference, so sign up today.

Introduction

FeastIn the past 15 years, Sandra McCracken has written and recorded more than 10 albums. McCrackens record, Psalms, released this week shortly before The Gospel Coalition's 2015 conference, and "We Will Feast in the House of Zion" was sung often (available on iTunes or Bandcamp). Many of the songs on Psalms are based on passages such as Psalms 42 and 62, and aim to give believers songs to sing that bring healing, comfort, and strength.

Hymn Text

Chorus:

We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more

1. We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up

(Chorus)

2. In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength

(Chorus)

3. Every vow weve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful one
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom.

(Chorus)

Theological Application

We Will Feast in the House of Zion encourages us to great faith in Gods goodness and protection. In our lives, we will experience struggle and hardships; we will walk through the tragedies of fire and flood (Isaiah 43). We will wait in fear that seems never ending. We will be betrayed and abandoned, and one day, we will face death.  In spite of such great troubles, McCracken calls us to look to the great abundance we find in Christ. He is good, strong, and faithful. We can trust that He will one day restore all things, and on that day, we will rejoice and praise our God.
